1. The Vyatka Teachers' Training Institute was founded on July
1, 1914, with only 2 Faculties (Physics; Science and History) and 29 students.
In 1918, the Institute was reorganized into a higher educational institution.
The first Rector of the Insittute was the well-known mathematican
Professor N.A.Dernov.
In different years the teaching staff of the Institute included such
well-known scholars and educators as A.K.Volnin (A.S.Makarenko's supervisor),
Professor N.N.Shimbiryov, the author of the first soviet textbooks on
pedagogics; Associate Academican N.M.Karinsky, Professors P.N.Luppov,
K.V.Dryaguin, B.A.Tapayevsky, V.V.Multanovsky, A.S.Vasilevsky, V.F.Sakharov,
M.G.Yanovskaya, V.I.Chernov, Ya.G.Birenbaum, V.G.Reshetov.
At present, Rector of the Insittute is A.M.Slobodchikov.
2. The Institute has 52 Departments and 13 Faculties:
There are about 4000 full-time and 200 extra-mural students students at the Institute.
The faculties of the Institute include an observation station for the Earth artifical satellites, a botanical garden, an agro-biological station, a field practice centre, a swimming pool, a sports camp. The Institute has also got a science library, an editorial-publishing division, and the Institute's history museum.
3. The teaching staff of the Institute numbers 515 lecturers and instructors, and among them - 21 Professors, Doctors of Sciences, 206 Associate Professors, Candidates of Sciences.

6. The Institute heads the Educatinal, scientific and pedagogical complex of the Vyatka region, and is also the founder of educational institutions of new type (gymnasiums, lyceums, colleges).
