1. The Institution was founded in 1911 as a Teachers` training
College for teachers working in primary schools and specializing in several
subjects. In 1818, it assumed the status of higher educational institution.
It had 3 Faculties: Physics and mathematics; Literature and History;
Natural sciences and Geography.
One of the first directors of the Institute
in 1918-1919 was an outstanding mathematician and teacher V.K.Bellyustin.
The University academic staff included Professors: A.D.Sablin, V.K.Lebedinsky,
S.I.Arkhangelsky, S.M.Vasilevsky, M.Ya.Yermakova, G.I.Zhiltsov, V.V.Radziyevsky,
U.V.Ulyenkova, I.V.Petrivnyaya, N.M.Zvereva, A.A.Frolova, Ye.F.Glebova.
Since 1980, the Institution has been headed by professor I.Ye.Kurov.
In the
Early 1990s the Institute was reorganized into a University.
2. The University comprises 8 Faculties:
which enroll 6000 students.
The Institute structure includes 3 special
Faculties and Departments, a research department, a publishing department, a
library, museums, an observatory, an agrobiostation, a sports camp, a computing
unit.
3. 430 teachers and lecturers work at the University, among them - 2 Honored Scientists of the Russian Federation, over 30 Professors, Doctors of Sciences and 250 Associate Professors, candidates of Sciences.
4. Students are training in 12 specialities:
There are Faculties of Applied Psychology, Pre-Institute Training, Subsidiary Pedagogical Professions. Spegialists having higher degrees can get pedagogical education.
5. The University research trends corresponds to the specialists` training orientation: pedagogics; teaching methods; psyhology.There are 2 Specialized Councils for awarding Candidate`s degrees, full-time and extra-mural courses, the system of training for a Master`s degree.
6. The University created a marketing centre for educational
materials and services with a rich data bank keeping information on new
methods of teaching, cycles of lectures, videomaterials, teaching aids.
The
University is a leading educational institution in the sphere of elaboration
of programmes and teaching methods for many-level system of training.
