1. The University was found in October 1957 on the basis of
the Mordovian National Pedagogical Institute. The University had 6 Faculties
with 4000 students.
The first Rector was Candidate of Historical Sciences M.I.Romanov.
The University academic staff included well-known scientists and scholars:
M.M.Bakhtin, M.M.Kolyadenkov, I.D.Voronin, A.I.Maskayev, N.I.Cherapkin,
P.D.Stepanov, M.G.Safrgaliyev, I.I.Zaslavsky, Ye.V.Sapozhnikova and others.
The University is headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences N.P.Makarin.
2. The University comprises 18 Faculties:
The University structure includes an Agro-Industrial Institute with 3
Faculties (Agriculture; Agricultural Mechanization and Electrification;
Agricultural Economics) and Ruzayevsky branch with Engineering specialization.
16000 students (9000 full-time, 7000 part-time and exta-mural) receive
instruction at the University. 22 department branches were opened om the basis
of industrial enterprises, research insistutes, secondary schools.

3. 1200 teachers and lecturers work at the University, among them - 57 Professors, Doctors of Sciences and 637 Associate Professors, Candidates of Sciences.
4. Students are trained in 34 specialities:
The University runs the Interbranch Centre of Qualification Improvement for mangerial staff and specialists of national economy.
5. The University's research programme corresponds to the students' training orientation.
6. In 1991, the Republical Scientific and Educational Centre was established on the basis of the University to coordinate the activity of higher educational institutions, academic and branch research institutes, research and production associations of the Republic.
