Mordovian state pedagogical institute

1. The Institute was founded in 1962 on the basis of 4 Faculties:

• Physics and Mathematics
• Biology and Chemistry
• the Russian Language and Litrature
• Foreign Languages

It was second higher education institution in Mordoviya. 4 more Faculties were later established at the Institute:

• Physical Culture
• Pedagogics
• Defectology
• Pre-School Education

Well-known professors: G.I.Sarantsev, A.P.Feoktistov, Yu.B.Malykhanov work at the Institute.
Rector of the Insititute - Professor V.M.Makuschkin.

2. The Institute has 8 Faculties:

• Physics and Mathematics
• Biology and Chemistry
• The Russian Language and Literature
• Foreign Languages
• Physical Culture
• Pre-School Education
• Pedagogics
• Defectology

The Institute enrolls 5100 students (3100 full-time and 2000 extra-mural students).

3. 446 teachers and lecturers work at the Institute, among them - 8 Professors, Doctors of Sciences and 128 Associate Professors, Candidates of Sciences.

4. Students are trained in 12 specialities:

• informatics and computers
• physics, general technical subjects and vocational technical training
• biologu, chemistry and ecology
• the Russian language and literature
• the Russian and the Mordovian languages and literature

5. The Insititute's research programme corresponds to the specialists' training orientation.

6. Since 1991, the Institute has been a participant in the Federal research and educational programme "Development of Education in Russia"; the Institute's theme is: "Classes in schools with a small number of pupils and incomlete teaching staff".
Since 1992, the Institute has been the leading institution in the research and teaching programme "A demonstrative experiment at a Pedagogical Institute with the use of electronic, gasdischarging, semiconductor devices and the technology of their production".
